Environment Awards - an inspiring company

Last night we attended the Yorkshire Post Environment Awards in Leeds, hosted by Hilary Benn and Julia Bradbury.  We were shortlisted for the Best Environmental Business Award - along with the recycling services firm Taylors Environmental, and the food company Bettys and Taylors of Harrogate.   It was described as the most hotly contested category and we were delighted to be nominated.

Although disappointed not to win on this occasion, but we can hardly begrudge the eventual winners, Bettys and Taylors, who have done a fantastic job across their organisation to lift the prize.  It was an inspiring evening all round, hearing about such great activities going on across our region to champion green technologies, educate people about going green, and to develop environmentally friendly products.

One of the most interesting discoveries was that we have a fascinating company right on our doorstep, a prize-winner in the Manufacturer of the Best Green Product Award, Econoplas.  They are based right around the corner from us, and we didn’t realise!  They do great work turning waste plastic into drainage products for use in sports surfaces, green roofs, construction etc.    You learn something new every day, huh?!
