Duraweld awarded twice for environmental achievements

Jane Harper, Duraweld
Duraweld is celebrating two new accolades for its commitment to environmentally friendly business practices this week, as it features in the third annual edition of The Sunday Times Best Green Companies list and scoops one of the top prizes in the Binding Industries Association (BIA) Awards.
Competing against companies from across the US in the BIA Awards ‘Product of Excellence’ category, Duraweld entered a specially designed travel card holder made from their own 100% recycled polypropylene. The company adapted its standard vinyl travel card product using sonic welding instead of a heat sealing manufacturing process, producing wallets which were both environmentally and ethically sound, as well as attractive and durable. The unique design has been registered.
The BIA Judges commented: “We were very impressed with the design and use of materials. The travel card holder is creative, very practical and it really stood out amongst the other entries.”
In The Sunday Times, Duraweld was ranked 39 out of 60 companies throughout the UK, and featured in the Top Ten for having the ‘greenest employees’. According to the Times, “…competition for places in the Top 60 was intense and the quality of entries very high. Only those organisations demonstrating the highest environmental standards, with workforces wholly engaged and in tune with their green initiatives, have made it onto the list.”
Victoria Pitts, Durawelds’ Green Team leader said: “It is very rewarding to have our green initiatives and products recognised by both these organisations and it positions us as being up there amongst the best in employing environmentally friendly business practices. Our commitment to protecting the environment remains firm and we will continue to improve and develop both our internal processes and our recycled product ranges.”
These two new accolades support Duraweld’s ISO 14001 accreditation and carbon zero status.

Duraweld share lean manufacturing experience with Americans

Binding Edge
Customers of UK ring binder and plastic stationery manufacturer Duraweld have benefited from their use of lean manufacturing techniques for four years. This month their American peers have been learning about the benefits in top trade publication ‘Binding Edge’.
In a magazine which features Duraweld owners Mark Yeung and Hannah Senior on the front cover, Duraweld’s production manager, Jamie Swan is interviewed by Binding Edge, revealing at length the process he introduced into the manufacturing company; the benefits it brought and the process he went through to establish it.
Duraweld regularly opens their doors to organisations wishing to learn from their experiences. On 3rd March eight people visited the site as part of the Inside Industry initiative hosted by The Manufacturing Advisory Service, and on 25th May 12 printers from New Zealand will visit as part of a UK study tour with Print Yorkshire. This extensive article is a further demonstration of how Duraweld wants to share their expertise to the benefit of the manufacturing industry as a whole.

Award won By Richard Senior from Duraweld
Richard Senior, owner and director of Duraweld, has been awarded life-long membership of the BAPC (British Association for Print and Communication) in recognition of his dedicated services to the print industry. Announced at the Associations’ annual conference in Buckinghamshire last Saturday, Richard was presented with a specially engraved glass award to commemorate the event.

Freddie Kienzler congratulates Richard
Duraweld, based in Scarborough, is one of the UK’s leading producers of customised presentation, packaging and printed products and celebrates 50 years in business this year.
At the presentation, Freddie Kienzler, Deputy Chairman of the BAPC, gave a short speech highlighting some of the many innovations Richard has made during his career such as his work on recycling, which have kept him at the forefront of the print industry. Build a Ring Binder Online Service Launched
Today at 5.00pm ring binder manufacturer Duraweld announced the launch of their unique online “Build your Own” service at the BAPC conference in Marlow.
As the result of two years of research and development, Duraweld customers can now receive instant quotes or place orders for fully customised ring binders - at any time of day or night. Although already the biggest website in the industry, the company is extending their existing e-commerce range to offer fully customised products at the click of a mouse.
In depth customer research convinced Duraweld that speed of reaction was the key selling point for their trade customers, who rely on a swift response from trusted suppliers in order to give their customers a quality service. So Duraweld has given them an instant option.
The interactive service guides customers through four easy steps allowing them to build over 250,000 different ring binders, with the ability to upload their artwork for print or encapsulation. This represents 90% of the traditional vinyl ring binder options Duraweld has been offering their customers for over 50 years.
Existing customers, who register for an online account are offered the opportunity to buy on credit and trade customers are guaranteed the same discounts they currently enjoy via the sales office.
Account manager Sue Dawson says, “Since we have offered the service to a few of our customers - we have been blown away by their enthusiasm. The feedback has been overwhelming. They find it simple to use, it saves them time and because they can actually see the product they are specifying, they feel confident to order online.”
With stock orders guaranteed within five days and bespoke orders delivered within 10 days of artwork approval; the online order tracking facility adds the peace of mind that Duraweld customers will get the right product, in the right place, at the right time and all for the right price.
