Working with the Manufacturing Advisory Service to Improve Efficiency

As part of Duraweld’s commitment to simple efficient operations, Duraweld recently invited Manufacturing Advisory Service consultant, Bob Unsworth, to help improve its efficiency in two key areas: utilisation of space and reduction of manufacturing lead time.

bob-unsworthBob assisted in conducting a review and recommended that there was a potential to consolidate the warehousing and production to one site. Duraweld now has better use of factory space and a more efficient handling of warehouse components.

Bob also worked with Duraweld to identify and improve non-value added (NVA) activity. His work has directly impacted:

• Layout of specific processes to reduce the ‘waste’ of people and product movement
• Reduction of change over times by 28% in the Printing Department
• Reduction in work in progress levels to improve product flow

mas-low-resBob commented: “Duraweld is continuously reviewing its operations to identify areas of NVA and how it can improve quality to ensure its continued success in the market place.”
